My wife has been tracking her progress via MyFitnessPal about an extra 40-60 days than me, her progression with her weight loss is what got me to finally get serious about my weight loss.
I have been swimming for an avg of 45 minutes at a time, three times a week or more, for all of last year. However, I wasn't really watching how many calories I was eating. I was lost some inches in my waist line and my endurance in general was increasing, but I wasn't losing weight quickly at all.
Right around Thanksgiving I decided to join MyFitnessPal and started keeping tracking of what I eat and how much I exercise. Since doing so, I have dropped another pant size, had to buy a new belt (which in the last week, I am taking it in another belt loop hole) and overall I am down about 16 lbs.
I also started hitting the gym more and more, that started in the middle of Dec, right now I avg three times a week of circuit training, usually 60 minutes at a time (sometimes 80) and more often than not, I will swim for an hour afterwards. One of those circuit trainings per week are with a personal trainer, the other days I do things that we worked on during the last session on my own.
I really want to get down to around 200 lbs, which in my adult life I have never been.
While I watch what I eat and keep my calories within limits via exercise, I have not taken to a strict diet, I find that I allow myself to eat out with coworkers and get sandwiches from the likes of Jimmy John's and Subway, but as I had always done, I skip the mayo, and sometimes get them prepared as 'unwich' (no bread, lettuce wrap style), mostly so that I can enjoy my potato chips in peace.
When someone brings doughnuts to the office, I might have one or two, but I make sure to workout extra hard at the gym later that night.
I would love to be at 200 lbs tomorrow, but that isn't going to happen, so I am OK with losing weight at a gradual pace, while enjoying my life day-to-day, and sweating my *kitten* off for an hour or so each day (or other day, depending upon my schedule).
I have found a lot of folks on here to be inspirational. So much so that, today I went down to the local university and got a Body Composition scan (dual-xray), very cool. It has given me a good view of (% wise) of exactly what I need to lose and where (of course visually speaking, I could see that too, but didn't have the cool fat vs lean mass vs skeleton data).
I am going to keep with my exercise routine for a while (probably keep at this pace for the rest of the year), but in three months I will get another scan to see how well I have progressed.
