I'm looking to buy an exercise bike because I need something lower impact on my knees and ankles. I have little to no experience with bikes and not sure if I should go with the recumbant or an upright. My gut feeling is I would get a better workout on the upright but the recumbant looks so much more comfortable. What is your experience?

I have a recumbant. I get a good burn on it. My mom has a regular stationary bike. Having used both, the difference I noticed is that it works your leg muscles differently. On the recumbant, the front of my thighs hurt more, but I don't notice much on the back of my thighs like I do with the regular kind.

After doing a ton of research on bikes in our price range (under $400) and trying bikes at several stores and we ended up getting a ProForm 110 R BIKE, it is a recumbent. It was only $199.00 at Sears. I found the bikes all have the same technology unless you go up into the real pricy ones $1000. and up. We 've been using it every day. Features we like are...250 lb. max user weight capacity, Compatible Music Port for iPod, 14 personal trainer workout apps, or you can just do laps. It works out great for us.We are both 40years old i'm 5'2.5", 160lbs, he is 5'10" 170 lbs. I burn about 230 calories in 30 min. on the bike.

For more of a full body workout with low impact we purchased an elliptical from hsn on value pay only $429. (5 payments of $85.00) I burn about 340 calories in 30 min. Using the included Jillian Micheals IFIT workouts
The bike is actually harder in my knees!
