Hubby isn't exercising or counting calories with me, but will eat the same foods as me. He's getting bored with plain grilled chicken breast and pork chops. (I only fix red meat once a week and we don't eat much fish.) Anybody have a great low cal recipe a non-dieting husband will eat to share?

My fiance loves ground turkey burgers! We grill some ground turkey, add barbecue sauce, onion and a slice of pineapple (grilled) and put on a bun. SO yummy!!0

Some things I do with chicken breasts:
-chicken fajitas (use low salt mix or make your own, 2% cheese, whole wheat tortillas, onions, peppers)
-chicken/veggie alfredo (use this recipe with the Health Twist: http://www.bettycrocker.com/Recipes/recipe.aspx?recipeId=35474 and add in grilled chicken and sauteed veggies, serve over whole wheat pasta)
-chicken/veggie primavera (2 jars spaghetti sauce, chopped veggies cooked in the sauce, cooked chicken pieces, over whole wheat spaghetti)
You can make just about any recipe lowfat/low cal if you think about what you can substitute.
For the whole wheat, there are milder tasting whole wheat/grain pastas. I think Barilla makes one that is lighter on the wheat flavor.0 -
Turkey chilli,
Fish, all kinds of fish, baked with a minimum of butter, and lots of lemon juice and herbs, you can bread it if you use panko bread crumbs or the like (whole grains) and still stay very healthy.
Ahh, how bout shish kebobs, lamb is a good choice, or scallops, or even just chicken with say a nice rub on it.
Slow roasting a whole chicken is also a great choice, very different taste then just a breast..
try some buffalo (bisen) meat, it's very lean, and also very tasty, if you like beef you'll probably enjoy it.0 -
Another thought/idea. A lot of the time, I will eat a heavier main course item with the family, and adjust my sides.
EX. If we eat bubba burgers for dinner, I have mine w/o cheese w/o bun and a nice salad on the side. The hubby & kids might have the bun & chips if they want.
Or, like last night we had leftover mexican type stuff and I put all mine on top of a salad and skipped the cheese. They had the chips and put theirs into soft taco shells.
Also, we do dinner for breakfast which makes everyone happy. I go for an egg white omlette & they enjoy frozen waffles. We all have turkey bacon.
Hope this helps!0 -
I agree with nickelmel... turkey burgers are GOOD. I think that's all my mom makes unless she can't afford to buy it over regular hamburgers... but it has a lot more taste than a regular hamburger. and it's good. I can't say that enough... my dad eats them and likes them too.0
