Am I too fat for Yoga?

I'm trying my first yoga class today after work, I'm still quiet big (220lbs) but I'm very agile and my strength is growing with every gym session.

I just wonder if I'll be able to cope with it with my size? Especially as I'm going to a hot yoga session for 90 minutes.

I've done DVDs at home before and loved the stretch feeling I get, however that is in the comfort of my own home.

I was around 220 when I did bikram for the first time. I loved it! Just remember to drink a ton of water and lay down if you need to in class. The first few classes are the worst but once you get used to the heat you will love it!

Yoga is very individual. It's not competitive, it's about everyone working toward their own potential. If you feel it gets to be overwhelming, take a short breather and then jump back in. Just work to the best of your ability and enjoy what your body is capable of. :-)

    Thanks Guys!

Given me the boost I need :) Always get quiet nervous when I start a class.
  • Like everything, do it at your own pace. I find Yoga more challenging, and I like Pilates a little better! :)

There's no such thing. Yoga isn't about skinny or fat... anyone can do it, just listen to your body. If something doesn't feel right, don't do it.
