    LOL there was one girl on here who said she was just dieting and not even working out and someone said "you are just gaining muscle!" .. i was like .. uhhhhh, you dont gain muscle just from dieting, you need to work hard for it!

    YES! perfect. They may WEIGH the same, but they take up more volume. One pound of muscle LOOKS less than a pound of fat. Just like 1 pound of feathers will take up more room than 1 pound weights.

    So, worry how the clothes fit, not how the scale moves. you don't want to be skinny fat do you?

    I know this has been said over and over again but it's quite simple

    If you replace 1 cubic inch of fat from your body with 1 cubic inch of muscle you will be the same size but you will be heavier. You in essence are becoming a denser person.

    .. If you only have a small amount of weight to lose, then you may feel like the weight training is not helping you move down on the scale. In fact, the number may even go up, but you will look thinner. This is due to an increase in lean body mass (muscle, bone, blood volume) and a decrease in body fat. In other words, even if the scale doesn't change much, you will probably see a difference in how your clothes fit.

    the same volume of muscle will weigh more than the same volume of fat.

    you can have a small muscle and a bunch of fat and they can weight the same.

    i dont think anyone means that the same volume of each will weight the same.

    The expression "muscle weighs more than fat" assumes equal volumes. So if you have the same volume of fat as you do muscle, the muscle is going to weigh more. Similarly, if you have the same weight of each, the volume of muscle will be less.

    Do people not realize that?

    They only understand weight to be measured in lbs.

    look at it this way 1cm3 of muscle weighs more then 1cm3 of fat so muscle does weigh more then fat

    My pet peeve is people that DON'T realize that and whose pet peeve is when people say muscle weighs more than fat.

    I hate when people gain a couple of pounds, vent online about it, and people say "you've been working out - its probably muscle." It takes TIME to put on muscle mass. Sorry you didn't gain a pound of muscle in a week. Especially women!

    Either you are retaining water, or you ate more than you thought you did.

    More then likely it is water. A pound of fat = ~3500 calories. I seriously doubt somebody has oven eaten that many calories in a week.
