OK, at the risk of being the guy that can't stick with the program. I am going to start strong lifts 5x5 over from the beginning and start with no more that 50% of my 5 rep max on all lifts. I have stalled twice on my bench and overhead press at the same weight, deloaded 10% and worked back up to stall at the same points, 140 lbs on bench and 100 lbs on overhead press. When looking back and RE-READING the strong lifts manual for the 4rth time, I see that I never was doing to program properly. In the beginning, I was still eating sub 1500 calories a day and that progressed into doing all 5 compound lifts every day because it did not seem hard enough, then when I stalled the first time I read the manual again and it reminded me that I was lifting too much and not following the program and dropped back to the 3 lifts alternating days.. I did a 2 month bulk and made slight gains on squat and dead lift , and ZERO gain on pendlay row, bench and overhead press.

SO now that I am eating a more appropriate diet, and have learned the lifts, I will begin the program once more and give it a final 12 week chance to prove myself wrong. I do not want to go through life feeling weaker than the average 12 year old girl.

So here is where I am now for max successful 5x5 lifts.

Squat- 185 lbs
Bench- 135 lbs
Pendlay Row – 120lbs
Deadlift – 225 lbs
Standing overhead press – 95

If anybody has an opinion, Id be happy to read it. otherwise, Cheers and see you on the stronger side in 12 weeks.

UNLESS, somebody has compelling reason to try a different lifting protocol.

If you follow this routine, you will see progress, if you follow another one such as 5/3/1, go mad, SS, you will also see progress. give it time and stay dedicated.

I don't have an opinion, but I think it's great that you're starting over and doing it right. Enjoy! :drinker:

Hey, I appreciate the feed back guys. And I did make some progress overall, when I moved to free weights, I could barely put 105 lbs up 5 times for 1 set on the bench press, and now I can hit 135 5x5. I just feel that as a 6 ft male at 172 ( down from 230) I should be able to lift a hell of allot more than that....
