Working out and your Period

I have one bad day where my back hurts and I'm exhausted and have the general crappy feeling. It hurts to even stand on that day so i usually dont do anything. I find that exercising helps my cramps and I am not sure why. Maybe the release of tension or the exercise endorphins?0

I am nearing the end of mine this month. This week has been so hard for me to work out. I get huge energy spikes and dips. I went to the gym during a spike but when I got there, it dipped back down and I just felt exhausted and depleted of everything in me. I've been trying to manage my eating and exercise, but yesterday I just felt so bad I went to bed at 6:00 without even eating dinner, definitely without working out. I think the fact that I ate so few calories led me to eat way more than normal today. The cravings are just through the roof. I am still pushing myself to do even just a little every day.
Does anyone find that Midol/Pamprin makes them tired? It has caffeine in it, but for some reason, when I take it, my fatigue becomes even worse.0 -
The first day I am dead to the world, so I don't go to the gym. After that I do pretty well. My eating habbits suffer though so I have to take b12 suppliments so give me the extra energy to get through the workouts.0

I just tried to do day 4 of 30 day shred and almost died before the first circuit. It wasn't like muscle exhaustion, (I was able to do even more push ups than any other day) it was the feeling that I couldn't get energy to circulate throughout my whole body in general. Make sense? It was like hitting the wall from carb depletion, only worse.
I'm going to go enjoy a hamburger, homemade with a 6oz lean patty and some serious carbs, and multi vitamins, and try again this afternoon.
This was a new experience for me - and it sucks. Periods suck, period.0 -
I usually feel a bit sluggish the day before, but when it starts - energy galore....I feel more pumped than ever for some reason.0

It's my TOM now, and my workouts have been much more difficult to get through. I have to push harder.0

I drink some extra water that week, but aside from it being harder to just get up and work out, my cramps and fatigue are both better during and after my workout.0

no not really...nothing i can recall as noticeable.0

i notice if i do workout during mine, I tend to feel so much better after the workout...it alieviates (sp?) all the painful symptoms to the point where I barely feel like I'm on mine anymore.0

There is usually a day or two during mine that I really can't do anything...but it hits me pretty bad...alas.... the other days I DO notice I am weaker in general. I just do what I can...and modify... even if it;s working out at home I still try to do what I can!!!0

its hard to get motivated but I feel better if I DO workout in my TOM. I usually get a headache the day before and my belly hurts bad the first day. This time I went for a killer workout with my friend (who is a professional) and the pain in my legs took over my usual cramps. I had no usual menstrual cramps and my period went away so fast! I am planning to do it again next month0

My period lasts three days. I am honestly exhausted all the time if I'm on my period or not so I don't notice a difference in that area. I also have very little cramping if any if I work out or not. The only difference I notice is that if I work out my flow is a little heavier. I honestly have more issues with my chest pains (muscular disorder) because they can be completly debilitating(sp?).0

I have to take it easy as I have very heavy periods which has contributed to my anaemia. My gyno has suggested that have an endometrial ablation procedure, I'm still thinking about it though. I get terrible lower back pain too so I stick to just walking and yoga.0

I see no difference in my work out... it's all the same, and I get intense cramps0

I usually take my "heaviest" day off and try to continue my regular routine on the rest of the days. If I'm having a particularly bad day due to cramps or moodiness I go easy on the weight training and stick to the good ol' elliptical....that machine never fails me...
Although I will say this, I HAVE to train by myself when I'm on my period. I usually work out with my boyfriend, but when I'm on my period I can be stupid moody.....every other word he says offends me and I lose focus and confidence. He's not even mean or anything, he'll just make a comment about improving form or kicking up the intensity, just like a good trainer....but I always get super flustered. I remember once I even cried out of frustration because I kept losing my balance on a move and his advice felt more like attacks to me at the time. And the gym is no place for tears....unless it's from lifting heavy....but yeah that day was embarrassing...
So yeah....I prefer to work out alone....he understands...:)0
