I understand that BMR is the amount of calories you'd need if you were in a coma (mine is 1517). But when I use the guided method of setting goals, it suggests 1200 calories? I've been doing that for a couple months, and it's been working. But I'm worried that I have slowed my metabolism since my weight loss is starting to plateau. Also, I've checked other websites with calorie calculators, and they all have different amounts for suggested calorie intake (including a BMR of roughly 1500 cals, and then a 1264 calorie goal for weight loss). If only there was an alarm in your body saying "You need to eat X amount of calories to maintain/lose/gain".

Thoughts?

    ignore mfp..

google harris benedict formula..use this to calculate your EER..estimated energy requirement. remember to check the metric conversions and activit level. always go on this calculation, not the magic 1200 cal thing. its nonsense. everyone's body is different and every ones energy requirements are different.

your metabolism is what it is..plateaus happen because we lose weight, and fail to adjust for this. also our bodies adjust and become efficient at using calories..we still need and use those calories, and i we dont get enough our bodies take that energy from our fat stores. thats how it works. so to keep from stalling you need to constantly be switching things up every month or so.

Did you choose the "recommended - lose 1 pound a week" option or the "bugger them ,I want to lose weight FAST - lose 2 pounds a week" option?
Maybe recalculate your MFP goals with a more realistic 1 or 1/2 pound a week loss and the numbers are probably going to be more realistic too.
