jogging stroller/running outdoors

i am new to running/jogging, so i know the times are going to be low for some of you who have been running for a while, but i have a complaint! LOL first, i developed asthma, so i had to slow down my running until my meds kicked-in. now, i'm back up to where i was and feeling great, but i was given a jogging stroller, and thought, "Ok, i'll run with my daughter in the stroller instead of on the treadmill." WOW - what a HUGE difference! first, she weighs about 32 lbs, plus add the weight of the stroller. concrete is hard and mean! :grumble: i love the treadmill so much more. my daughter loves the jogs, so i won't quit, but i can't get passed running for about 25 minutes or the next day, i feel like i've been beaten. i have good running shoes, and maybe it will just taking some adjustments, but how do i build-up running outdoors?
thanks! :flowerforyou:

For me its lots of stretching because I get shin splints. I have also found that my mind set is also the most important thing to over come. I have to make up my mind "I am going to enjoy this today" and do my best to do it.
Most of the time, our feelings and mind set are a choice that we get to make believe it or not. Just keep telling yourself that is the way it is and eventually that is the way it will be.
You will never regret that time running with your daughter.0 -
I love my jogging stroller! A good thing to try is intervals--alternating between walking/slow jogging and fast jogging/running. Also, if there's a park with trails nearby, that would help with the pounding. Good luck!0

thank you so much for saying that!!!0 -
Find some dirt roads! They should be packed down enough that the stroller won't get stuck but it will help with the soreness. Also, if you continue outdoors your body will adjust to the pressure of the concrete. I had a hard time with it for the first few months and just had to cut down on how many times I was going a week . Know, 10 months later, I could go at least 4 miles a day everyday (if I had the time). A running buddy of mine swears by using a rolling pin on her legs when they get sore. She was told by her trainer that it would help with the aches and pains. I can't remember the reason this works but it does. Also, Make sure you are drinking enough water because you might have to much lactic acid building up and that can cause some sore muscles too. Good luck and keep up the running! It is the best addiction0

thanks for the info. i'm not sore on my legs, it's my whole body, which feels like i've been jarred in a car wreck! i work-out every day, so this overall feeling of soreness is new to me. i think the water is going to be key, i know i haven't been drinking enough. :blushing: i will keep going, but build-up slowly.0 -
How old are your running shoes? Did you get fitted for them at a running store? It sounds to me like you do not have enough cushion to absorb the shock when you hit the ground.
I went and got fitted for a running shoe and the one they fitted me for makes me feel like I am running on a cloud. It is the Asic but not every shoe is for every person. It is according to your body type and running style. Also, is it at least 1 size larger than your regular dress shoe?
I had these same exact problems until I went and got fitted. I had no idea you must have a running shoe one size larger, boy what a difference it made!
Good luck, I hope you can get through this.0 -

yes, i was fitted in december, i have brooks. they are fantastic, my feet never hurt at all. i think my body is just used to the treadmill, and this hard ground outdoors is really messing with my body! hopefully i'll get used to it soon!0 -
Try some stretching before you go. Some nice, slow long stretches. Do not rush it, take your time. See how that helps.
You can do a search of "stretches for runners" on youtube and see a bunch of different ones to try.
Good luck.0
