We love it in our house, though it's fried and I want to attempt to bake it. I've read mixed reviews on baking it.

For those who aren't familiar, it's mashed chick peas and seasonings, and some sort of binder, made into little balls or patties and fried. It's often served as a wrap with lettuce and tomato and a suace made with plain yogurt and dill or mint. It may sound a little odd but trust me, done properly it is TO DIE FOR!!!!

For those who are familiar, anyone have a good baked falafel recipe???

    Hi!
I absolutely LOVE falafel! I've never baked them...and I know that some recipes say to deep fry them. But I like to just fry them in a frying/saute pan coated with canola oil cooking spray. This is a much lower fat/calorie way to fry them than if you were to deep fry or pan-fry in a lot of oil and you still get that crispy outside.

    2.5 cups cooked chickpeas
    2-3 cloves of chopped garlic
    1 egg
    1/4 cup tahini
    1/2 tsp ground cumin
    1/4 tsp turmeric powder
    2 tbsp parsley chopped
    2 tbsp green onions chopped
salt to taste - be careful because some canned chickpeas are salted, i use organic unsalted.

    heat oven to 375
puree chickpeas, garlic, egg, tahini, salt, cumin, and turmeric in food processor. occasionally scrape down sides.
    add parsley and green onions.
roll into 1.5 inch balls and place on lightly oiled cookie sheet.
bake for 10 minutes or until browned. (i like to turn them to get them crispy on all sides!)
