Elliptical with ankle injury

Have any of you ever used an elliptical with a mild ankle injury? I am a runner but I am trying to lay off because of a sore ankle. I have never used an elliptical and am wondering if it would cause any aggravation to my injury.
Thanks in advance for your help!

With my stress fracture (Fibula, not a weight bearing bone), my doctor said no running and no elliptical, but the exercise bike was ok.0

Why risk further injury? Could mean an increase in the amount of time it'll take you to heal.0

That's why I'm asking because I have never used one, I'm not sure if it would aggravate the injury or if it would be fine. My ankle hurts when I run and it is pounding on the ground. I've been told the elliptical is different. Doing nothing for 6 to 8 weeks really is not an option so I'm trying to find alternatives to the running.0
