Talk to me about gel nails

I am having a hard time growing out my nails and am considering trying gel nails. Nothing wild, just a nice practical-length French manicure style.

My concern is what happens to the condition of your nail beds when you have them removed. Were your nails healthy afterwards or a mess? Any regrets?

I got them when my sister and sister-in-law were getting married a week apart. I feel like they ruined my nails. My nails were brittle and peeled after I soaked them off.

    I was definitely sorry.

I have gel nails and have them done every 2 weeks. At one point financially I couldn't do it and when I had them removed my nails were not as strong. My salon put shellac on them and it kept them from breaking until they grew out.

You need to try the CND Shellac manicure. It is great!!

Get Shallac, it's like a polish and does not ruin your nails, it'll give them added strength until they grow.

Another vote for the Shellac. I did it for about three months but had to stop becuase I wasn't sure about my financial situation. Now that things are stable I might go back, I loved not having to worry about not chipping my polish, it really did last two weeks.

Although if I do go back I'll probably ask for a different nail tech, the shellac started peeling quickly with her and I suspect she just wasn't as good as the first tech I had. My nails were not damaged after the Shellac. I have heard gels do damage the nailbed.

Thanks everyone. Good to know! I think I'll look into the Shellac instead.
