I run 5ks about 3-4xs a week and looking to try my first 1/2 on October. Does anyone have a great training system that worked for them from 5k to 10k or half? Thanks in advance!

I followed a slightly modified version of Hal Higdon's novice plan for my first half and it worked out really well for me. I did my first 5K in May of 2011 and my first half that following November. I had more than the 12 weeks on the plan to prepare, so I just stretched it out a bit and added in extra weeks to work myself up to the full distance before my race.

I'd highly recommend anything John Stanton(Running Room)...all of the running schedules are in his books, pick up a copy for 20bucks and you'll have anything you want...5K, 10K, 1/2 or even a full! :)

good job on the running :)
I ran my first 1/2 last October(2011)..I'm going to retrain for this October again and hopefully improve my time(I ran with a broken toe..it has to get better than that!) but for now, I'm training to run a 10K straight through(without walk breaks) for April 21st!:)

Second the Hal Higdon plan. I used it for my first half marathon.

Also consider finding a running group near you, it's great motivation and it helps keep you on track training wise. Check the local running specialty store near you. :)

Best of luck with both races! Warning - Half marathons are addictive!
