"You'd have to go on a 600 calorie a day diet..."

"to lose any weight at all." WHAT?!!

Just a bit of background... I'm a lawyer, lost 50 pounds at the beginning of law school with the good ol' fashioned calorie restriction and exercise... then after I graduated and started studying for the bar exam I gained 25 of it back (last summer). I've been trying to no avail to lose it - it seems like what used to work, doesn't. I have a sugar addiction problem that I never used to have, my hormones are messed up (adrenal insufficiency) and I have lupus (since 2006). Oh, thyroid problems too, but it never posed a problem with weight loss.

So I saw my rheumatologist today and told him that my new endocrinologist wants to help me get this weight off, balance my blood sugar, etc. So then he tells me that it's impossible for me to lose weight because I am taking 4 mg of Medrol (a steroid, and not every day, only when I flare) and 5 mg of Cortisol for adrenal insufficiency twice a day. He said I would have to go on a 600 calorie a day diet in order to lose anything. Considering that I am frustrated because I have been in some amount of a calorie deficit for the past three months and should have been losing something but haven't lost an ounce, it just totally ticked me off.

Grr, DOCTORS! Whatever, it isn't going to stop me :-)

Word. I'm seeing my endocrinologist on Monday so I'll see what she has to say about it...

Good! The endo is the one to see. . .have her refer you to a Dietician. Not a Nutritionist, a real Dietician.

You'll figure this out! 600 calories = bad plan. Regardless of your medical issues and meds.

Good for you for continuing to search.

Thank you! I agree, 600 cals = not smart, especially with what I do for a living and I actually have to function at work (imagine that) :-) Thanks for the encouragement! I just had to vent about that today.
