Well I am 30 and have been thinking about getting a degree in something, so i do not have to make 25,000 a year for the rest of my life. I have worked in the healthcare field for the past 10 years, direct care at a psychiatric hospital.
I am considering going for a Respiratory Therapist Degree, and am really just looking for some pros and cons of choosing this field, from working respiratory therapists.
Do you feel like this was a good career move for you and what kind of job opportunities have you had since getting your degree? In your opinion is there an excess of Respiratory Therapists and not enough job opportunities, or are there ample jobs where you are.
I would really appreciate any feedback you may have.

I am not one, but when my son was in the PICU/NICU the RT's were my favorite people because they always made sure he was breathing well and got all the gunk out of his chest, monitored his ventilator and monitored him while on ECMO. They are wonderful people.

I'm not an RT, I'm an MT (Medical Technologist).... but I do know the RTs at the hospital I work at get paid alot more than I do :( Although they do have to deal with sputum... *gag* the one thing I can't handle... so be forewarned.
