Are HRM Belts Waterproof? Suitable for swimming?

Hi I've just bought a HRM and I'm wondering if anyone that already has a HRM uses it whilst swimming? My HRM is waterproof however it isn't clear if the watch is waterproof or both the watch and belt is waterproof. If anyone knows please let me know and also does it read accurately whilst under water? (I don't wanna break it straight away lol)
