I don't know about mushrooms (don't like them), but I make a good spinach, artichoke, ricotta lasagna that has the following sauce:
5 tbsp butter (easy to lighten this up, and I think I half the recipe)
1 medium yellow onion
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 cup all purpose flour
3 1/2 cup milk
3/4 tsp nutmeg, grated
1) Melt butter and add onions, cook 4 minutes
2) Stir in flour and cook 2 minutes (DO NOT BROWN)
3) Whisk in milk slowly and bring to a boil. Stir in nutmeg, season with salt and pepper to taste
4) Reduce heat to low and simmer 10 min, whisking occasionally.
It seems to me that sauce would work with your lasagna, too. It's probably lighter than alfredo, although not as light as SkinnyTaste or whatever alfredo.
