I don't know if there's an exact number but I'd go with around 3 weeks-- that's how long I give any change to my calories, to see if it's working before I change it again. Have you plateaued or feeling full? What's your reason for thinking it's time to change?

amm....to be honest 3 of my close friends also dieting but they follow crash diet like 800-1100 calories per day with also exercises daily...they lose around 5.5 - 6 pounds weekly...and they 2 months away from finish and im a 2 week started so it kinda make me greedy and wants more numbers weekly lol :P

however i WILL NOT ever do a crash diet if its gonna result to a fail at the end

What's wrong with eating too few calories is you will cannibalize muscle and train your metabolism to retain more fat, quicker next time you eat bad and it will be MUCH harder to lose at that point. So not worth it. I suggest working out more and keeping your number to what's recommended for min. consumption for a male. What's great about that is that you will eventually be able to eat more and not gain a thing (when you get to maintenance).

I know what you mean, we all fall into wanting bigger numbers faster! However you really don't want to drop that low. What's your current weight and goal? Are you set to 2 lbs per week?

ETA: You are much more likely to keep your weight off if you follow your instinct and do this the healthy way. Go read some success stories here on the site from people who have lost the weight AND kept it off-- maybe it'll help keep you motivated. :)

MFP will prompt you to review your calorie goals when you hit 10 lbs lost. The system will give you a message suggesting you adjust your settings. You can wait for that message or do it anytime you like by clicking on 'my home' then 'goals' then 'change goals'. If you choose the 'guided' option it will do the math for you based off of your current stats and the rate of weightloss you request (1 lb per week, 2 lbs per week, etc). If you do it frequently, though, it really doesn't change by very much,

It sounds like you're making good progress with a pound or more a week. The most I would do is set it to 2 lbs per week loss. As you go on, continue to update your goals with your new stats, this is a common thing that people overlook. Good luck and keep at it!
