Hi all

I have a new HRM - it's the Kelly Holmes one from Tesco which had very god reviews for accuracy. I just did level 1 of Jillian Michaels ripped in 30. It times the whole thing including warm up and cool down as 40 minutes and stated that I burnt 590 calories. At the times when I glanced at it the heart rate did seem to be about right. It was recieving the heart rate from the chest strap the whole time. I am 5'10" tall and weigh 258.8lbs. Does this calorie burn sound accurate? It seems a little high to me, but I am heavy and I am unfit! LOL. If anyone else uses a HRM for 30ds could you post your weight and cals burnt so that I can get an idea of if my HRM is right?

Thanks.

i don't do the 30 ds but i have used a hrm on and off for about 5 years, 590 cals in 40 mins is slightly high, but if you are as you say you will get high numbers, when you start to lose weight and become fitter it gets harder to burn the same sort of numbers,as your body becomes more efficient.
i usually burn about 600 cals in an hour, hrm's are not totally accurate, but they are more acccurate than the gym machine calorie counters, and about as accurate as you are going to get.
i find that a hrm is a great motivational tool, hope this helps.

Thank you. I think i'll log it as 400, just to be safe! I eat my exercise calories back so don't want to undo my hard work!

I am 260 pounds and use Polar FT7 , my initial days on 30DS the calories burnt were reported around 325 and then they went down to 270 odd, before level 3 kicked it back around 310
I understand everyone is different and 30ds will give you different results too based on "who" you are following, i was following anita primarily

that's probably a good guesstimate, after all you prob would have burnt 50/60 cals even if you'd just been sat on the sofa, don't get too hung up on the numbers, and have fun that's the key, exercise you enjoy!
