I have the Polar F4 and it's great. It tracks calorie burn for each exercise session and I find it to be accurate. It was about $90-95 but well worth the money. Polar makes other lower end models but I think this is the 1st level for tracking calories burned.0

Buy.com has a Reebok HRM for $29.99, not tax, free shipping. It includes a chest strap and watch monitor. I have it and works very well. Does everything like the expensive ones. Cals burned, max HR, fat burned, and so much more.0
