On an Internet forum, correct spelling and grammar really only matter when meaning is lost. That's it. If you cannot understand someone - or misunderstand someone - because of a spelling or grammar mistake, then that's a real problem. Everything else is just a mix of annoyance, ranting, patience, overlooking, correcting, being helpful, admonishing, ridicule and feeling superior.

I've felt or done all of those. And I know it's hard to just let the errors go. But I have to allow for other people's experience and skill set to not match mine. I have a journalism undergrad and have worked as a copy editor. So I don't make a lot of mistakes when writing, even posting on a forum. But that's just because of practice. I've devoted a lot of my life to focusing on that stuff. It's not about being smart. There are lots of people on MFP that are WAY smarter than I am, but don't spell or write as well. Different experiences, different skill sets. That doesn't even address the fact that this is an international website where users may be posting in their non-native language.

It's usually best to just ignore a spelling or grammar error unless you cannot understand someone and need clarity. Sometimes when I just can't ignore the error, I'll correct the error in the quote when I reply. The OP might not even notice, but it scratches that itch to copy edit without calling attention to someone's error.

That SHOULD read: I am going to lose weight.

I know spelling can be tricky, so here's a link that illustrates commonly misspelled words. So if at first you didn't understand why "I am going to loose weight" is wrong, click the link and take 5 minutes to learn the proper spelling of commonly used English words.

You are aware that MFP is not solely comprised of people from English speaking countries? English isn't the first language of everybody in the world.

While it's possible that the human brain can be completely thrown off from parsing sentence due to a spelling error, what are the odds in this case?

One could make the comment that using caps in thread titles is shrill and irritating too, which is really all this amounts to unless meaning is lost.

I'm more concerned about people trying to pluralise words by using apostrophes.

    For realz.

Sooo... are you volunteering to teach everyone online how to properly spell/use every word? Is that your intention? Even if you try, it won't work. You just look like a judgmental snob that needs to get off your high horse and be a little more accepting of people. Not that I think that...of course...
