Hi all, I have never really been into exercising before now, and have set myself a exercise program to keep me motivated. The only problem im finding is my body is getting tonned (4 weeks in) :-) but I dont seem to be loosing any weight/ keep gaining lbs. Is this due to gaining muscle or something else? Anybody got any good advice??

Loving being toned but also want to hit my target weight?

Thanks

Kelly

Common occurrence! Body holding on to water to repair muscles! I normally not weigh in until 2 days after strength training!

Yep, it's water retention. If you like what you see in the mirror, don't worry so much about what you see on the scale! Water weight is temporary.

Women can only gain up to 12 lbs of muscle/year - and that's with strict diet and a spot-on exercise routine, so people commonly misinterpret weight fluctuations on the scale as muscle gain - it doesn't happen that quickly! Unfortunately :)

Instead, it's more like that as a previous poster said, your body is reshaping itself, and if you're incorporating strength training into your routine, your body could be retaining water in order to rebuild the muscles you're breaking down.

Focus more on inches lost and how your clothes fit for the first few months, and give your body time to adjust and break in your new muscles!
