Logging a Taste

My family and I all have this habit of sharing or tasting each other's food at resturants. I try not to get too picky, but when it's a high calorie type item, I do try to log it for the sake of being honest with myself.

I would love to hear your suggestions for logging things like a "bite" of cheesecake.

Depends what it is... a bite of a fruit or veggie, I probably wouldn't bother logging it. A taste of a donut or something naughty... heck yeah, that could whack you with 50 cals.

When you're talking something like restaurant cheesecake, I'd truly estimate the portion of it. Was it 1/5th of the total slice? 1/8th? The log it as that fraction of a serving of the size of slice it came from. Does that make sense?

I will always try my boyfriend's food and he will always try mine. I don't log it unless it's dessert (and that's usually because I don't get my own dessert but eat 1/4 of his). For the actual meal I don't log it because when we eat out (which isn't that often any more), the calories in our meals won't be that different. So the extra calories I might eat from his meal will generally equate the calories he took from my meal.

As for dessert, if I didn't eat 1/4 of it, I'd still try and estimate how much of it I had tried because I haven't had any calories 'taken away'.

I had a taste of cheesesteak yesterday because I knew I was under my calorie limit for the day. Little did I know that one relatively small bite of that delicious sandwich was like eating a half serving of Kashi crunch!

Nah. I don't log samples. I don't eat enough of them to worry about it.

ETA: I didn't get fat by eating samples.
