Whole wheat flour

Yesterday, I was wondering why my flour had brown stuff in it and then I read the package. I bought whole wheat by mistake. I was making pancakes for company so I sent my husband for regular but told myself I would try whole wheat pancakes. My question is, can whole wheat be substituted anywhere it calls for regular flour or do I have to look for whole wheat recipes specifically? Thanks!

Yes and I do it all the time. White flour has been stripped of all the nutrients

I replace half the white flour for whole wheat, and the original recipe still turns out and tastes just as good. I remember reading that a while back, but don't remember the specifics as to why, it's best to do half and half rather than replace all the white flour with whole wheat. Lately actually I've been substituting about half a cup of flour with ground flax meal to make it even better.
