How many calories did I burn?

So I have read a lot of people making comments on how MFP over estimates calories burned. However, my machines at home always say I burn MORE than what MFP says. So what do I put down for calories burned? MFP or my machine?

I'd go with MFP because the machines are horrible too!!! $77 gets you a heart rate monitor on Amazon.com!!!! Best thing in the world!!! I love mine!!!

If your machines are set to your specific measurements and weight and such like then go with them!

There are a few options .... average the two, take the lower, or get a HRM.

No one can tell you how many calories you burned, especially when you don't tell us anything about you or what you did.

The most accurate calorie measurement is with an HRM, but otherwise, just use your best judgment. Calorie counting is estimating at best anyway.

Sorry, I'm 5'1" and am currently weight 149. I use my ellipitcal. It doesn't have my measurements but I do a weight loss program on it so it changes my resistance during the work out.

I second a HRM. I just got my Polar FT4 and I love it so far! I got it on www.bodytronics.com. Cost me $61 with no shipping or tax. Not to mention I ordered it on Wed. and got it on Friday.
  • Invest in a heart rate monitor. That was a major step for me. The heart rate monitor will tell you exactly how many calories you burned.

Like others have mentioned, go for getting a HRM. It may seem expensive but it is totally worth it! I have a Polar FT4 and I love it. It will give you accurate calories based on your age, height, weight, etc... That is the best way to get the most accurate count of what you are actually burning. If you don't want to spend the money then I would underestimate calories.

in my experience. Machine's are on the high side when it comes to calories burned-get an HRM for better accuracy. My treadmill doubles even though it has been set with my personal stats.
