I figured out why my shin hurts!!

Options
Ok people, so I was running on the treadmill today and I had an epifiny! It was a true moment when I realised osmething and loads of other things then made sense!!

The reason my shin hurts when I run is that I am slightly club footed on my left side and this put pressure on my shin and calf!

I have been my whole life I just never connected the dots before! My funny leg possition on that side when I horse ride, the pain in my leg I get when I jump because of the shorter stirrups and greater pressure, the pain in my foot and calf when I ride a bike and those "weak ankles" that had me wearing boots for years because they (I now realise just my left side) would just collapes at any time!

See, a realy eurika moment! Thanks treadmill!! Now what the hell do I do about it? My trainer said to get some inserts in my trainers but I don't know where I would get them from to correct this. I have tried to self refer myself to the podietry team to see if they can or will help but what can I do in the short term?

Any constructive sugestions are most welcome!! Thanks all!!

You need to go to a decent running shop. They'll sort you.

Agree with Jane. A store that specializes in running shoes will evaluate your gait, and fit you with shoes and/or inserts that will be best for YOU. Good luck.

Good idea, however, I live in the *kitten* end of nowhere and there are no running shops! I did get my running shoes from a proper shop while vising Aberdeen so they are proper shoes but it is a problem that I have in only one leg!

I guess my suggestion would be it might be worth taking a day trip, just this once. Once you're sorted, you'd be able to order what you need off t'interweb?

It does sound like you need a bit of specialist help, to work out how to support the problem foot more effectively. Maybe call the shop up before thinking about making a trip, and check they are sure that they can help you?

I agree! Once you've got the first pair you can buy the next few online (cheaper!) x

Might be wise to find cardio alternatives.
In this case pain does not equal gain.

Hmm, a trip to London may be called for! Just not sure I have the money to get new shoes and rail fare!! I will have a think. I like the idea of rining the store though I hadn't thought of that!!

Maximal I am not going to be able to find alternatives as it is a problem that I have even when I walk! So unless I can find some shoes/inserts or the podiatry team can help me I am prretty screwed!

On the plus side I don't remember it being too bad before, I just thought it was weak so when I do lose more weight (this is the heaviest I have ever been) then it should improve if not go away. I do need to be careful though as hormones can have an effect on bones and I have been pregnant since I was last very active and I will need to declare this when I get refered for a hysterectomy as it may mean they don't want to do it! Hormones and bones! What a pain!!

If it's affecting your walking, then I think that a doctor's referral is also somehting you need to pressure for. Have you talked it over with your gp?

Ha!! That is so funny! My GP is a jerk!! I don't think he would know what the human body looked like if he didn't have a poster of it on his wall! All he would do is give me painkillers and send me to podiatry anyway! So I am cutting out the middle man and the adictive drugs and just refering myself! Lol!
