hi guys,

i am looking for a little bit of help. i will be doing an assignment on Autism for my course, its due in about 2 weeks, and i am looking for someone who has a child with Autism, i would need to email them maybe 3/4 times and ask some questions about Autism, as i have to do an interview of sorts

this is my first time doing any research on Autism, so i will only have the information that i can get on the internet, so bear with me

if anyone would be willing to help me i would be so grateful :flowerforyou:

As I went through my coursework, I had to do a paper on autism. I found the most helpful thing was to observe autistic children in their school setting. It is one thing to have someone describe a situation or behavior, it is another to see it in person. Any elementary school with a special ed classroom will accommodate a request for observation- you should ge see for yourself what autism is like. You'll learn SO much. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

My little brother's teacher had him assessed for Aspberger's, which is a type of autism. Apparently the signs were his fixation with numbers, his excitability (difficult to control), and the fact that he didn't really understand discipline at times (like if you raise your voice or swat him on the bottom sometimes he just laughs).

As an aside, the therapists who watched him said he's actually totally normal. He has just always liked math and is pretty hyper. I guess we just don't give him big spankings.
  • My 10 year old son has autism, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have. Feel free to message me here or email me at heatherfeather77@sbcglobal.net

my 8 yr/o nephew is autistic, and also severely epileptic. It'd be really interesting if you could do your interview with an autistic child or adult, rather than just the parent. Just a thought. It's a huge spectrum, be prepared for major discrepancies :flowerforyou:

Wow! keep this thread going and you will get an A+. My 10 yr old is autistic, hearing impaired, and allergic to all things dairy. I'll keep an eye out here and might answer posted questions.

I agree 100 percent! Autism is very complex and manifests differently in each individual. It is something better understood if observed.

my son is aspergers, autistic spectrum, he has fixation on movies and my god the kid can remember anything, stupid things that none of us would remember , like where we ate and what we ate when we went on vacation 3 years ago when he was only 5 it is amazing what these children can do, never underestimate them they will always surprise you..

    hi everyone,

thanks so much for all your replies, i appreciate everyone's opinions

so, my assignment is mainly research based and its has to be based on children or teenagers, anyone under the age of 18, we had our work experience classes before christmas, but i worked with children with other kinds of special needs, not autism

    appreciate all your thoughts
