No longer obese

I have been obese since I was about 15 (18 now). A lot of it came from lack of confidence from other people at my school having better bodies than I did, as well as some teasing saying I'll never get abs which really caused me to just mope around. Food of course, was another factor. I was using food as an excuse to feel better, which basically did no good. By the end of my freshmen year, I weighed 253lbs at only 5'8" with a BMI of 38.5.

A couple of years went by and I was still on that track, nothing new happened, still just decided not to do anything. Suddenly my bff (Bf now) was actually looking good! He was at my level of weight back then and he decided to make a change about it (He went from 245 to 180). In May of 2011, I was at 249lbs at 6ft, and that's when I said "I will not take this anymore.".

I was on a nice diet plan, I did not fail it, and on August 25, 2011 (18th Birthday), I was at 236lbs which was still obese, but not as high as before. I continued walking, lifting weights, running, and even some nice aerobics. Of course I did have obstacles such as more teasing and some cravings, but that did not slow me down at all, I wanted to show people that people like me, you, and others can change. It might not be an easy task, but it is worth it in the long run. Today I weigh 213 with a BMI of 28.9. I lost almost 10 BMI, and I'm no longer obese. Overweight yes, but that's about to change! I can jog faster and longer, I can actually move around more freely, and I am actually starting to lose my love handles and gaining some muscle as well.

So this is pretty much how I started from being obese and doing nothing about it, to changing and becoming a better person. My journey is still not over though, as I want to be below 190 so I can have a BMI of 24.9 and lower.

  • great job. keep it up and you will have the last laugh. i use to work with a lady and when i would walk by her she would tell my friends, "there goes mrs. piggy". i saw her the other day and she turned her back to me and acted like she was on her cell phone, although i am still overweight, she has at least 80 pounds larger than i am. it's interesting, even then we were both overweight, i was just larger, and she would always laugh at me. i started to go up and speak but i didn't because i know i have seen people and acted as if i didn't because of my weight.

That's fantastic! I'm just 8.5 lbs away from reaching that goal myself. I'm proud of you!
  • Thank you all so much for the gratitude. ^_^

I don't show those memories of my past life any mercy now, so basically I have changed much healthier because I know my family has a recent history of heart attacks, and I'm glad I'm out of the danger zone for now. I'm still gonna do my very best to get healthier.
