Eating before bed

I heard that eating right before bed is bad because your body doesn't have the chance to burn off the calories. I never really looked into the truth of this, but I am wondering now because I came in under my calories by 517 today, and no I'm not hungry in the least.

My concern though, is about my metabolism and whether or not I should eat a little something to get closer to the 1200 and avoid starvation mode. Any thoughts on this?

Your body doesn't have a switch that it turns on for "starvation mode" as soon as 24 hours have gone by and you haven't logged 1200 calories;-) So long as you are not significantly under for long periods of time in a row, I'm sure you'll be fine. 517 calories is a pretty big defecit for a 1200cal day, though. I'd personally at least eat something like a string cheese or have a warm glass of milk.
Time of day or night you eat has no bearing on calorie burn. Calories in vs calories out. You can work out at 3am and eat a feast at 10 pm. Whatever.

    Meal timing is totally irrelevant.

You COULD eat all your daily calories right before bed if you like.

The reason late night eating gets a bad rep is that people eat their normal calories in the daytime, THEN eat more at night. They then wrongly blame the late night eating, when all it is is they simply created a calorie surplus.

    Thank you.

I'd forgotten how many cals milk has in just one glass. I should have had one of those!
