MFP gave me 1500 calories burned for 4 hours of golf riding in a cart--can that be right? Seems way too high. Should I change it to what I think I actually walked--maybe about .75 miles? Our course is till really wet so a lot of holes we have to keep the cart on the paths.

I also found that the "golf" scores were too high (double meaning here, grin ). There are some other websites to google if you want to know 'how many calories in playing golf'. But your own sense is likely the best sense.

1500 calories?!? That's some pretty extreme golf! I agree with ^^^^^ Go with what your own sense. You know you're body and how much of a workout it felt like.0

That sounds way too high. That sounds like what you would burn walking 18 in july on a hilly course carrying your bag.0

my mom's on here and it said she burned like 700 some cals riding in the cart, too. Seemed like bs to me. Maybe they include the fit of anger that ensues around the 13th hole?0

If you walked the whole 18 holes, that would be about 5 miles, maybe 6 if you're hitting in the rough all day. (7200 yards x 3 for total feet then divide by 5280 to get number of miles). How long do you take to play 18 holes? 4 hours? If nobody's playing slow in front of you? So, 5 miles in 4 hours is less than 2 miles per hour walking. Add in swinging a club 100 times and the weight of carrying the bag and you still aren't anywhere near that number of calories if you were walking the course.
I don't know how the MFP numbers for playing golf are calculated but they are way way way off.0 -
If it keep you going on weight loss then keep playing golf. At the end you will see the big picture.0

That would be a fairly accurate number for a round of golf while walking a course, but there's no way you would burn that if you were using a golf cart.
Unless, of course, you had a wicked slice like I do and spend most of your round walking through the woods, farmers fields, riverbanks, rock piles, bushes, sand traps, flower beds, etc. looking for your ball.0 -
I will only log 120 minutes for a 4.5 hour round of golf. Of course I do a lot of walking inbetween shots in order to be ready to hit when it's my turn--"ready golf"0
