I currently am (or think I am cause my scale at school confuses me) around 160 lbs and am 5' 10". Each day i am jogging around 3 1/2 miles for about 35 minutes and consuming about 1200 calories or a tad bit more. Every Tuesday/ Thursday i am involved in my college's physical fitness class that involves 20-25 minutes of target training which includes jump roping, agility ladder, elliptical, and other such activities that hope to get us a little more in shape. I am seeing weight loss but i am wondering if i should be working more per day on strength training/ weight lifting. Any input?

Only 1200 calories? You need to be eating WAY more than that! Where did you get that number? MFP? 1200 calories is way too extreme!! It may be ok for a little while, but it's not sustainable. Your metabolism will crash. You BMR is around 1700+. I wouldn't go any lower than that NET, meaning eat back most of your exercise calories too!
I agree with Acg, eat more and strength training 3x per week in lieu of jogging.0 -

So you are saying to forget about the jogging altogether? or just cut back on jogging and strength train for 3 days as well?0 -

You said you run everyday (in addition to a 2 day a week fitness class)...unless you are running to train for something, I would take 3 of those days and do weight lifting instead (jog the other days of the week). Jog in addition to lifting if you want, but it's overkill, imo.0 -

Any ideas on exactly how long i should be weightlifting for those 3 days? since i havent really done much weight lifting in the past i would guess start slow?0 -

You really should read up on lifting then and get a routine together. The New Rules of Lifting by Alwyn Cosgrove and Lou Schuler would be good. And I haven't read it, but I've seen Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe recommended a lot. Maybe someone you know or someone in your college gym could help you?
