    Ah ok I get it.

By knowing the time it takes and the distance I can find the speed to know under what kind of walk to log it.
    Right?

Yes. If it takes you 15 minutes to walk a mile, then that is 4 miles per hour, if it takes you 20 minutes to walk a mile, that is 3 miles per hour and so on.

I would consider using an alternative way of measuring your calorie burn, because in my experience MFP significantly overestimates the number of calories burned from cardio exercises, including walking. You wouldn't want to overeat because of a number error. Best wishes :)

I had the same experience. I did the elliptical for 45 minutes yesterday morning and my HRM (watch/chest strap combo) said I burned 322 calories, but MFP said 475. I went with what my HRM said. But, when I took a walk yesterday/today during lunch (which I don't normally do), I logged them as "moderate" at 2.5 mph when it was probably more like 3-3.5 mph because I knew that MFP overestimated calories for me, in the hope that I would get something more accurate to what I actually burned. I can't wear my chest strap all day under my work clothes, unfortunately.

I have an HRM on my watch but people on MFP told me it isn't as accurate as a chest strap. I can't really afford one of those unfortunately

Use googlemaps to map the distance. If its so short that Googlemaps can't realistically track the distance it's probably not worth logging. If you can get a measurable distance, time the walk and use division to determine the speed, then log the walk using the speed and time.

This is a really good idea.

Or use a free, bespoke app that does the job for you - endomondo, runkeeper, mapymyrun.....
