First 10K

I walked my first 10K today and it was great! When I walk at home I can do three miles in an hour, so I figured 6 miles would be two hours, plus the .2 plus accounting for being tired and if I slow down since it was my first race, so I figured on coming in around 11:15. Well not only did I beat my estimated time, I beat my normal 3 MPH time by coming in at 10:40!

I was so amazed by how well I did....I even surprised my boyfriend and brother who were hanging out at the 4 mile mark waiting to take my picture....they didn't have the camera ready since I was early so my brother had to run ahead to snap my pics, lol.

I felt great up until 3 miles....even the fourth mile was fine but it was right around 4.5 that I started feeling tired and I was getting a blister on my foot. But I ended up running the last 500 yards or so, so that I could come in running when I crossed the finish line. I thought running would feel good since it was a change from all that walking, but man, my legs were like rubber. I also think I started running too soon because I was just about dying as I neared the finish (so not a runner, but I plan to start training once I get my shoes for my birthday). But that has got to be one of the best feelings when you cross the finish line and everyone is cheering.

A year ago I could never have walked this, so I am so proud of myself for even doing it, let alone blowing my time out of the water.

Great job!! Definitely get some good running shoes. And next time, try Body Glide (you can buy it at running stores or sporting goods stores) that you can rub on your feet and other rub spots (it looks like a deodorant stick). It works GREAT, I use it for my long runs.

I actually have some and used it on my inner thighs....I thought about my feet because I pretty much knew I would get a blister, but I wasn't sure about using it on my feet for the first time on race day. My brother runs marathons and he said he's never tried it on feet, and I was worried it might make my feet slide around in my shoes. But I shall try it on my next long walk and see how it goes. Thanks!

Oh yeah, it works well on your feet, sports bra line, inner thighs, etc. Rub spots HURT! Usually it's the worst when you get in the shower after a race... OUCH!!
