Interview Goof - advice please

My husband interviewed for a job today & when they asked him why he wanted to change jobs he told them he was tired of the commute & wanted to spend more time with our son. His current job & his new prospect are approximately the same distance apart. We just went over this last night. He wanted to say because he wanted to be somewhere where he can work his way up & have longevity at the company. He said he got nervous.
Does anyone have any advice on how to "fix" this goof? I know what's done is done but IF he gets called back for a second interview, is there ANYTHING he can say...ugh, I'm at a loss. This would be a really good job for our growing family. Also, I know the guy who interviewed him from when he frequented my place of business. Is there anything I can do that isn't pushy or tactful?
