Natural soya protein chunks

So, I bought a bag of these from the local health food shop, only £1.69 for about 375g. I thought I'd give it a go, since it's mega protein and relatively low in calories. I will admit they look just like dry dog food in the bag, probably the dog food would've had more taste!!
I soaked them in a stock made up of hot water and Chinese 5 spice powder, in the vain hope that it would flavour them some. It really didn't work, I normally do a stir fry with chicken/turkey, various veges and 5 spice and soy sauce and it's always tasted really delicious. These protein chunks, though, kind of absorb any and all flavour you mix into them. In the finish I used a satay sauce mix to give it some taste and it was ok but it made the meal higher in calories than I would have liked. I'm not saying it wasn't nice and actually when I had the leftovers later on it tasted better, so maybe they need to sit and stew for a bit, like a bolognese sauce or chili improves with a few hours sitting.
Anyway, I'm going to try again. I'm going to soak them in a beef stock and then use a curry paste to make an Indian, hopefully that'll flavour them up a bit.
