    Your calorie deficit is the number of calories UNDER maintenance you need to eat to lose weight.

    MFP automatically calculates your deficit at 500 calories per day to lose 1 pound per week. (Because, roughly, 3500 calories = 1 lb of fat, so to lose 1 lb per week, 3500/7 = 500.) Accordingly, if you set your goal to lose 2 lbs per week, the deficit is 1,000. If you set your goal to lose .5 lb per week, the deficit is 250.

    So, if your maintenance level is 1800 calories per day (assuming a regular day, no exercise), and you want to lose 1 lb per week, MFP calculates 1800 - 500 = 1300 daily calories.

  • Quick questions....if i want to lose 2 pounds per week then what do my net calories need to be? Are net calories the same as calorie defecit. Or is calorie deficit just the number of negative or positive calories you have left over.

    For example:
    Goal=1200
    Food=1798
    Exercise=522
    Net=1276
    -76 calories remaining in red......

    What do i need to change and what should my net number be inorder to lose 2pounds/wk?

    MFP automatically calculates your deficit so in your goals if you said you want to loose 2 lbs/week your target cal/day is your "goal" number that MFP gives you (1200 if you entered your information correctly)

    your net number is the effective amount of calories that you intake per day , so your example above shows that you are very close to hitting your daily target of 1200 since your net is slightly over your goal.

    short answer, assuming you enetered everyhting correctly setting up your weight loss goals, make your net cal = goal cal and your golden!
