Post-workout meal (at night)?

I've read that you need both protein and carbs after a workout. After every workout I drink 1 protein shake (1 scoop protein powder in water), but no carbs, because by the time I get home from the gym it's usually past 8 pm, and 1) I never eat solid food that late because it interferes with my quality of sleep, morning weigh-in accuracy and appetite for breakfast, and 2) I've read that you should try not to eat carbs- or anything, for that matter- that late (but this is not my main reason).
Is it okay to skip the post-workout carbs, considering how late in the day my workouts are, as long as I meet my macro ratios for the day?
