Becoming a Fitness Trainer

How do you go about doing this? Do you have to go through a college or are there other programs out there to become certified? My husband is really big into fitness and wants to make his lifes career into personal fitness training. I then intend to becoming a nutritionalist so we can work together to help people. (After I complete my own journey obviously.)
Any info or websites would be great!
