What makes high calorie things so binge worthy?

When I didn't know that peanut butter was jam packed with calories I didn't even like it... Then as soon as I found out that I shouldn't have a lot of it I sort of formed an obsession with it? I feel like the same has happened with many foods. I don't even have an interest in them until I found out that I can't have them. And then I really can't have them because there is no such thing as moderation. I've tried buying a jar of peanut butter and making it last but I just found excuses to eat is with every meal in one form or another. With my oatmeal, with an apple as a snack, on toast with banana, on toast with honey, by the spoonful, you name it. Why? I didn't even like it before... and now I just avoid it all together...

Unconscious self-punishment? Avoidance sounds good if you can't control it...
