Do you suck in when you measure?

So, I always have a bit of trouble when I measure. Some parts are easy (thighs, butt) because you can't really change it even if you try. But for the waist/tummy area it's so hard! Of course there's a big difference between sticking your belly out and sucking it in, but even between my normal slightly slouchy posture and trying to stand up straight posture there's a big difference. Does "natural" mean slouchy natural? Not sucking in, but standing up nice and straight? The reason it's important is so that I can be consistent; I don't care what the numbers are but I want to accurately know how much I lose. If I can lose an inch just by standing up straighter then I need to know exactly how to do this so I do it the same way each time. :-P

Another measuring question: For "waist", do you go with smallest point, bellybutton, or something else? My smallest point is several inches above my belly button and I always thought a person's "waist" was the smallest point, but everything I find says to measure maybe an inch above the belly button... we're talking a 2 inch difference in girth between those two points. What do you do?

Thanks.
