Advice for eating on vacation

I'm going on a tropical vacation, all-inclusive resort in two weeks and am soooOOo00oo afraid i will not be able to carry through with my healthy eating habits. Maybe an even bigger fear is that I don't want to constantly feel stressed out about what I eat, I want to relax but also be in control and not fret about something as stupid as food.
Has anyone gone on one of these trips before, where every meal is a never-ending buffet? Any tips?

I didn't get a response when I asked the same question Im leaving on Monday to an all inclusive in Mexico.. Someone else posted something similar and most of the feed back was just to enjoy yourself but be mindful at the same time of what your eating and get back on track when you get home. As well as to try and have low calorie drinks ( yea right ) Good Luck to you I know I'm gonna need it.0

I guess its up to you whether you want to be very strict and count your cals every meal, whether you want to forget about healthy eating for a while and just pig out... or whether you can find a path inbetween.
I haven't been on a holiday with lots of food since I've started here, but I often travel for work and get to eat a buffet breakfast and eat out for lunch and dinner with lots of treats for morning and afternoon break.
My strategy is to decide what I want to have from the breakfast buffet - and I've tried most of it, but just not to have everything every day! So, one day I will have bacon and eggs and a piece of toast, the next day I'll have pancakes, the day after I'll have fruit and pastries - so I get to enjoy the variety but not all at once. I usually have some fruit as well so I can have another "course" while everyone else is eating. This works for dinner too - enjoy it, just not all at once.
And for drinks - I try to alternate between an alcoholic or high can drink and plain mineral or soda water. That way I get to enjoy some nice drinks but only half the amount.
I suggest that you think through some strategies that will work for you, but don't let them consume your holiday. If you want to enjoy a great big icecream sundae, then do it, but not three a day and maybe not every day!0 -
It's obviously going to be hard to measure things out perfectly, but if you've been counting calories for a while you kind of get the hang of seeing how many calories things really have. I am also going to Mexico, in 5 weeks, and I've figured out that I have to make sure I eat enough fruits and veggies and don't pig out too much. Plus the fact that I'll be swimming in the ocean, walking around the resort, swimming in the pool, sight seeing, walking in the market, etc. so I'll be burning a lot of calories walking around all day. You can do it0

Think Clean Eating... Grilled chicken and fish. Steamed veggies. Fresh fruit. Water, water, water. Trust me... There are TONS of people like us who watch what they eat on these vacations. I bet you'll be surprised. But if I were you, I'd carry some snack-sized pkgs of almonds or something safe to eat. It will keep you from becoming desperate if you're hungry and you won't be chewing on table legs.
Have fun!! Post pics!!0
