Hello everyone,

This is my first time ever publishing anything in a public forum like this. I found this website on the advice of a friend at work, and thus far I am really loving it. I just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully get some good conversations started. My story is like many I suppose. I used to be in really good shape, and fell off the program after an injury. It used to be that I could run 13 miles without any problem, but runners knee has slowed me down a bit. I welcome any advice from anyone that has this condition on other ways to keep the cardio up without making the situation worse. One would think that being in Florida I would have an abundance of public swimming pools around, but there is actually only one nearby that would suit my needs and it is an expense I just can't add on top of my gym membership. So anyway...... Hello and I welcome any and all advice.

  • Welcome!!! I do not have any knee problems but I find that the Elliptical is good. It is very low impact and you can get a really good workout. Good luck...

Take it slow and don't do anything you won't be able to stick with long term. Its about a healthy lifestyle and not a short term diet.
Small changes make a big difference over the long run. Healthy foods and portion control.

Get MFP friends. Not just people you know, but people you dont who have the same fitness goals, even if they are at a different level.

I was on here for about 6 months, spratically. Once I friended people, it made logging on so much easier and fun. I like seeing how everyone is doing and giving/receiving encouragement. It really helps.

Thank you for the advice everyone. Jumping in to quickly has been a problem for me in the past. I tend to go too hard and that is not sustainable. I will absolutely add friends on here. I think that kind of mutual support would probably be a good thing. As to living in FL. I do have to say that it makes it a lot easier to focus on being in shape year round. When I was In Jersey we alwasy took the winter off! lol
