Any of my friends ever do a mud run?

One of my friends really wants me to do one in April. I'm not in great shape. Up until this past month the majority of my exercise included just walking and jogging. I just started the 30 day shred three days ago.
I kind of want to do it because it looks fun, but do I need to worry about dying???
Have any of you ever done it and were you in great shape before?

The best part about mud runs is people of ALL shapes, sizes, ages and fitness levels show up for them. Some are serious athletes, others are just there for the beer and the afterparty. It's a great time and if you go into it with the mindset of just enjoying the atmosphere, the people and of course the MUD! My once piece of advice is to bring some gallons of water to wash yourself off, a change of clothes and bags to put your muddy clothes in for the ride home. Alot of times these mud runs are out in places where there isn't alot of water for the "showers" which usually consist of a fire truck bringing water to the site to hose everyone down and they run out right as you are getting out of the pit Bring your own water and you wont have that issue. Also it's a good idea to wear shoes that you are ready to throw away because you will probably NEVER get them clean again. Most of the Mud Runs have an area for you to throw your shoes at the end of the race, they clean them up and donate them to humanitarian efforts around the world. For first timers, I would reccommend something like the Warrior Dash, it's a shorter course and the obstacles (while challenging to some, like me who hates climbing things) are pretty mild compared to say a Tough Mudder or Spartan Race.
Bottom line, no matter what shape you are in, DO THE MUD RUN you will be glad you did!0 -
For your training do the couch to 5k program
and weight lifting 3 times a week.0 -
Thank you for your input! That's what I will do!0

Mud Runs are great! If you can jog and do 30DS, you can do it.

I did the Warrior Dash and LOVED it. There are definitely people of all athletic abilities participating. You do it to your ability. I had a blast and was happy to have completed it, I wasn't doing it for time.
I'm doing a 10k one in a few months, that one has me more nervous!0 -
Okay. I heard the Warrior Dash was a harder than the one we are looking at doing---Rugged Maniac.0

I think they're pretty similar. I've only ever done the Warrior Dash so far so I can't personally compare, but what I thought I heard and read.0
