What are your favorite low calorie sweet or salty snacks? I am looking for options, cause sometime I just want to suck on a piece of candy just to the cravy (sweet), away...but it doesn't usually work..then i have a nasty taste in my mouth!

    sweet: one square of good dark chocolate (Vosges), hot chocolate made with water, 4 hershey kisses;

salty: I go with blue diamond roasted sea salt almonds and I do 12 almonds (half the normal serving), sometimes I go for homemade popcorn with olive oil, nutritional yeast and greek seasoning

We almost always have some kind of "kids" cereal in the house (we have no kids... I just have my "man child" lol). So sometimes I'll measure out some PB Cap'n Crunch, or whatever we have, and just munch on it dry. Curbs my sweet craving, and my need for something crunchy. I make myself eat it 1 piece at a time, too. Most cereals are only like 110 cals or so, so not too horrible.

Salty, I like Pop Secret: Homestyle pop corn. Not massively buttered, and not salty overload. IMO, it's just the right combo. They have 100 calorie size bags, too. Or tortilla chips aren't too bad for you either.

Sweet - Marshmallow Peeps!!! The Easter bunny shaped ones are only 110 calories for four of them!!! or Twizzlers licorice ropes. They are pretty decent for calories too.

Salty - Reduced Fat Cheez It Crakers - 29 of them are 130 calories. The new Kellog's crackers and chips are pretty tasty too.

Smart Pop Kettle Corn - yum! You can also make your own ... using a non stick kettle, but it takes a little practice not to burn it. http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-Kettle-Corn/

Yogi Mayan Cocoa Spice tea - with milk & honey (instead of hot chocolate)

Ghiradelli dark chocolate squares (the caramel ones are pure evil!). These come individually wrapped.

Nature Valley Granola Thins (thin granola bars with chocolate or peanut butter on the bottom)
  • Right now its Smart Pop kettle corn, its a little bit of sweet and a littel bit of salty all in one, and only 100 cal a bag! But if I'm at home I'll make the 3 2 1 cake for a sweet treat.

Sweet faves: Skinny Cow 100 Calorie Mint Truffle bars (oh, they are SO good), Brownie Bites (120 cals), a small piece of chocolate or ONE cookie (has to have chocolate in it!)

Salty: VEGGIE CHIPS OR STRAWS......they are the ultimate CRUCHILICIOUS snack. You can have a BIG bunch of 'em too, for 130 cals and low fat. Also popcorn.....with just a teensy bit of butter. Mixed nuts, too. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

imho this is one craving you must address,

read The End of Overeating by Kessler, a major nutrition scientist,

    the unhealthy triad: SALT/SUGAR/FAT

while we are reprogrammed to love those things, the modern processed food industry is addicting us to greater levels of these non nutritive things,

this is the rest of your live,

    this is your only body,

    please think

    your are fueling your only

Either way, almonds or soynuts. Blue diamond has almonds in sweet or salty flavors. Ditto soynuts.com.

Both are healthy foods. The soynuts from soynuts.com are low in sodium, the almonds are so-so.

My favorite snack (that work provides for free) is Emerald Sweet & Salty Mixed Nut Blend: Dark Chocolate & Peanut Butter Flavor. It's a mix of cocoa roast almonds, glazed peanuts and glazed pecans. SO YUMMMMY! 220 cals and 7g of protein.

a great salt snack is roasted beet chips. peel some beets and slice them super thin like potato chips. Arrange them on a paper towel in a single layer, cover with another paper towel and press on them to get some of the moisture out. Then arrange them on a baking sheet in a single layer, sprinkle with seasonings (salt and garlic is good but you can use your favorites) bake at 350 until they are crispy

I honestly don't really snack too often, but when I do, for salty snacks I like salted cashews or popcorn (whatever's in the pantry, honestly). And for sweet, I really do love the old standby of fruit. Lately it's oranges. I do keep holiday candy--hershey's cherry kisses or Dove promises-- and have one piece a night for "dessert" (not every night, probably 4 days out of the week), and that helps cut almost all of my sweet cravings.

For a sweet craving, I like to indulge in dried fruit like raisins or apricots. Sometimes even some dark chocolate-covered ginger.

For a salt craving, I like roasted peanuts. Sometimes I mix the peanuts with the dried fruit and I nab two cravings in one shot :)
  • Sweet: Dark chocolate squares, diet hot cocoa, Jello pudding snack packs (there are some that are only 60 calories), jello & some whipped cream.

Salty: Popcorn 100 calorie bags, pretzels, sunflower seeds. Sorry I don't have more for salty! My cravings are generally for sweet things! :)
