My fiancee is insisting that we go out for dinner on Valentine's Day, and I am so nervous because this will be my first restaurant trip since starting my new fitness plan. I know that we are supposed to treat ourselves every now and then, but I just don't want to blow days of hard work for one dinner. Does anyone have any tips for dishes at restaurants that can keep my calories and fat intake down? He won't tell me where we are going, so I can't even plan in advance! Any help is appreciated!

One dinner doesn't work that way, enjoy yourself.

We are going to the melting pot for Valentines day too :) Any tips on how to eat? What not to over dip in? I can't wait! And completely plan to enjoy myself to the fullest without worrying about calories, you should too!

But if their is something small that I don't care about ((such as staying away from a certain dip that I won't like so much anyway?)) totally plan on it.

Honestly, I'd say live a little. We are doing Valentine's day dinner at my FAVORITE steakhouse (I mean, best steak I have ever had in life), and I'm not going to worry about calories. Get in a good work out that day, so you've got the extra calories, and ask for half sized portions of the things you like. Nearly every restaurant serves HUGE portions that are too much food anyway, so ask that the chef make your portions smaller (I do this all the time) and eat what you want to eat. Also, ask for a small salad before your meal (with whatever low fat dressing they have) and that will help you to feel a little fuller before your entree comes. I plan on having a juicy steak, yummy salad, and this truffled mac and cheese they have and I'm going to enjoy every last bite :)

You can't do that much damage in one meal, even if you tried.
  • As long as you don't eat 3500 calories you should be okay. That being said lean towards grilled/oven cooked meats rather than breaded/crispy meats. Salads with lighter dressings and not mounds of cheese and meat. Split something with your fiancee. Honestly though, enjoy yourself.
