Hi guys, so far I have lost about 1 1/2 stone but recently hit a block.

Can anyone suggest tips to keep losing weight? I haven't changed my diet, I try to do some exercise each day but for 3 weeks now I have sat at 17 stone exactly! Do I need to work harder? Change my diet?

You hit a plateau. Just keep doing what you have been doing and you should be ok.

Remember as you lose weight your BMR goes down, a 200 lbs man is going to be different then a 180 lbs man. I think MFP will adjust your calorie goals for you so if you listen to it, you should be fine.

I regularly go for a couple weeks where it does not seem like I've lost a pound. But then one day I get on the scale and I might be 3-5 lbs lighter. Just depends on your body. That's why it is better to go by measurements then weight. The body changes it's weight every hour depending on what you have eaten and drank.

One solution for plateaus that I found worked is eat alittle more. That, for some reason, jump starts the body and you'll find yourself losing weight again. Don't eat much more and not for more then a couple days.

I like to calorie cycle. One day I eat 100-200 more calories, then the next day I eat my calorie goal, then the next day eat 100-200 less. I have found this to work for me, but remember, never go under 1200 calories unless you consult your physician first and he/she says it is ok for you.

OK I understand, I was wondering if I wasn't eating enough and my body was storing anything it got as fat.

I will definately do as you say and eat a little bit more to boost my intake. As a rule of thumb I always made sure that I eat more than 1500 cals but never go over my 1790 goal. Im tempted to swop my goal to 1 1/2 per week instead of my 2 pounds. You reckon that could be a good plan?

Drink some extra water for a few days. I find it usually helps me. And fills me up so I'm not hungry! ;)
Another thing I've heard, but totally doesn't work for me - have a cheat day. Eat an extra 100-200 calories (nutritious food, no junk!) once a week. Keeps your body guessing and gets you moving again.
Finally, if you're getting close to goal, weight loss just plain slows. Set your goal to fewer pounds per week and enjoy!

Changing things up is the best way to break a plateau. Find what trick works for you!

Remember this isn't a race, this is a marathon. I do 1 lbs a week because it gives my body time to adjust to the new weight.
The key isn't losing weight, it's keeping it off. After reaching the weight goal, most people still have to limit themselves. Infact everyone has to, it is a lifestyle change. So by giving yourself time to get the proper eating habits and letting your body adjust, you are much more likely to keep the weight off. So it may be in your benefit to allow yourself more calories a day.
