This past January I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and have been really struggling with eating better and keeping with a program. I have to record my blood sugar every morning and every morning I feel that it's getting harder and harder to eat the right things. I've lost 10 lbs already, but I don't know how much longer I can keep it up. Being diagnosed with diabetes at age 21 has really opened my eyes to how much damage I've caused myself. I'm determined to get healthy, but it's too hard to do on my own.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis of diabetes, but, keep in mind, (not meaning to sound flippant here) it could be worse! Fill out your profile so when you post on the forum, people can go there to see what they might have in common with you. This should inspire some friend requests. Check the groups section here on MFP to see if there is a diabetes group. If there isn't, start one. The point is, get a good SUPPORT system. That is key!!!! You will see that most people on here who have been successful have a great group of friends to cheer them on. Whenever you feel discouraged about eating healthy and exercising, ask yourself which would be more difficult? Cooking and eating right or dealing with blindness, kidney failure, possible amputations. Diabetes needs to be taken seriously and you will need discipline, but you've taken the first steps now finish the journey!! You can do this!!! Good luck and best wishes.
  • Thank you! :) I've been meaning to do the whole profile thing, but I've been busy taking care of the house.

There are several support groups for MFP members with diabetes, including one specifically for young diabetics. Search "diabetes" under the Groups tab :)
  • That's going to help me out so much! I just can't believe that I let it get this bad.
