On cheat days are we allowed to eat anything within our calorie goal or eat healthy but can go over our calorie goal. I had my cheat day on Sunday had pizza and was still under my goal. I want to go to Red Robins this Sunday but dont know the rule to cheat day. My cheat day is every Sunday.

There is no such thing as a cheat day. If the food or foods meet your caloric intake for the day, go for it.0

This, but if you're going along with the fad, do whatever you want. Cheat days are for those that can't hack a new lifestyle and think occasional overindulgence is weekly. Weight loss doesn't work like that in the long term.0 -
I have found 'cheat days' screw me up horribly. I never get back on track if I allow myself 1 day to go over my calorie counts. If you are doing great on your calorie counts and exercise, a 'reward' for doing so great isn't making yourself backtrack to old habits. Maybe let yourself have a small amount of something you really love. For example, my new dessert has been vanilla yogurt with honey almond granola mixed in. Super yum! I only let myself have this if I'm under or close to my calorie count for 7 days in a row or more. And then I don't allow myself to have a lot - just enough for it to be a treat.0

If you was still under your calorie goal whether it be for that day or the week then why is it a cheat day? Also even if you had pizza and was under calorie goals why was this a cheat day? I've never got the concept of cheat days, as the only person that suffers as a consequence is yourself? I get that sometimes its difficult to stay on track, birthdays, meals out, travelling, and on such occasions it would be very difficult to stay with calories, but why sabotage your effort and success by factoring in a regularly weeky cheat day? Not having a go, really i'm not, I've just never understood planned sabotage, we're either on here to lose weight or we're not? Isn't it that kind of mind set that got us into this position to start with? Someone explain it to me ☺0

I really want to go to Red Robins because I love their sweet potato fries. I think that its very difficult to not overindulge every now and then.0

Cheating once in a while is not what got me here. When I was 19 I weighed 250 lbs. I ate Wendys everyday because thats where I worked. I eat fairly well now throughout the week and workout 6 days a week. On Saturdays I hike and burn over 1300 calories. If I wasnt allowed to eat what I craved then I wouldnt of probably made it this far.0 -

IMO a "cheat day" is where you go over your maintenance/TDEE, not just over your calorie goal and DEFINITELY not stay under your calorie goal.0

It is good to spike your calorie in take once in a while for weight loss purposes, and also it is just good in general to indulge from time to time, as to not to deprive yourself from what you love! Go eat them fries girl!0

Can't hack a new lifestyle? Maybe someone only wants to have a dessert once a week and that IS their new lifestyle.
Also, I would say a cheat day is when you go over your calories, not stay under. If you are staying under your calories and having a "bad food" then you are just learning how to work in your favorite foods into your meal plan. You don't have to put foods into "bad" categories and make them off limits. You can really find a way to work whatever you want to into your daily plan.
As far as the rules for a cheat day go. The only one I would say is you go over your calories. Other than that, it's really up to you.0 -
I eat what ever I want as long as its under 1500, but cause I dont like to starve I started to eat more feeling foods like fiber rich foods
I think cheat day is one where you can go over, I think once a week of doing this can be to much, I save mine for limited stuff, aka my b day, super bowl, anversery, Thanksgiving,
but I would tell you to be careful I had a cheat day on Super bowl and counted the cals any way and found I ate over 3000 cals 0_O
scary, and the biggist problem is it really triggered my cravings again0 -
Thanks :happy:0

I wouldn't class it as a "cheat day" - just an indulgence day. Instead of spending your calories on "healthy" food you spend them on more indulgent food. If we weren't allowed the odd treat then we wouldn't survive this journey - I know I wouldn't :flowerforyou:0

The most effective diet is one you can stay with until you meet you goal.
For some people (like me) that means one day per week off the diet. It gives me something to look fwd to and a light at the end of the tunnel when I am struggling mid way through the week.
On those days I eat maintenance calories or a few hundred above).
With this I can sustain a diet for months without too much trouble.0 -

If you think having a dessert is cheating, you got this whole thing wrong. I eat pudding every day and dinners that are in excess of 1000kCal...why? Because I burn my *kitten* off to get it and eat so I can do the next workout. This is not cheating, this is pure graft and dedication.0 -
If you're under your calorie goal then I wouldn't call it a cheat day.
Cheat days are whatever you want them to be. Personally I'm a calorie zig-zagger because this fits my lifestyle better. I'll go over my allotted calories probably twice a week and this will be for meals out and socialising. How I manage this is to eat light during the day (i.e. porridge and then a salad for lunch) and then, when eating out I'll generally make low calorie choices, but not always and I'll have a glass of wine or two! What I do for the rest of the week is eat up to my calorie allowance and often save exercise calories so that at the end of the week my weekly calorie net will not be in the red.
I've done this from the start of weight loss - you can make your weekly numbers work out for your lifestyle!0
