Has anyone else cut back on dairy and noticed this?

I am a pescetarian and the only meat I eat is seafood. Recently I decided to cut out dairy as well just to see if it made any noticeable difference. One of the main things I have noticed since I started cutting back is that while I have not lost anything I actually look thinner. I am at 148lbs but I look like I did when i was at 140lbs. Anyone else noticed anything when they cut way back on dairy. I still eat it occasionally when I go out to eat but at home I use the alternatives, I LOVE cheese and never thought I would be able to give it up as easily as I have but I am finding it quite easy with the alternatives and my occasional outings to restaurants.

I've read that dairy can cause bloating. I think many of us who have that issues get so used to it that we don't even notice it after awhile. It might be that you have lost the bloat and noticed.

I, too, am a pescetarian...but I haven't cut out dairy yet. I've cut WAY back, and yes, I have noticed a difference. I think I'll take that plunge and go "all the way" just to see if you're right! :D

What "alternatives" are you talking about?
  • Perhaps you have a lactose intolerance and the dairy products cause some bloating?

I have been trying to cut down my diary intake- I am a cheese lover! I am still eating greek yogurt (super food) and 2% cheese thought. I have cut back considerably and noticed a difference in my belly bloat. I have read that dairy can cause bloating.

    Hi there :)

Since December of 2011, I haven't really had any dairy to speak of (i used to love me some cheese something fierce). My naturopath suggested it, and I too have noticed that "bloat" disapear with time. And you're right, it's not added weight, its just as if you were swollen and now back to "normal". From what I understand, dairy is a mucous forming food - which was my problem. Maybe that has something to do with thinning out...anyway, I'm not complaining LOL!

I went dairy free since i have some issues anyway (celiac) which often goes together. I am always on the hunt for good substitutes, there are a few, best though you still have to melt it is Daiya cheese alternative, really tastes mostly like cheese, for mac n cheese, nachos, tacos, etc. Yummy stuff, Follow Your Heart mozzarella alternative is great in lasagna. Have not yet found an alternative for riccota but if you know of one please let me know.

You can get them in pretty much any grocery store but whole foods has a great selection. I like the Almond brand cheese and the Rice brand cheese. Haha I know it's confusing since they are named almond and rice but those aren't the ingredients in them haha. They have pepperjack, cheddar and mozzarella, and when they are on a sandwich or in a meal I really don't notice that it's not real cheese, of course the flavor isn't as intense but I still enjoy them and they are less fat and calories too!

Hey, I cut out dairy simply because of the high calorie count. I drink almond milk and eat Galaxy veggie slices for cheese. Taste just as good as regular for 40 calories a slice. I do have half a cup of ice cream occasionally and the small cartons of yogurt. But come to think of it, I think I do have less bloating. Hmmm. Well, good luck and congratulations with your success!

I too only eat fish, but I can't cut out the diary becuase it's one of my few sources of protein.

you can cut out dairy and still get all the protein you need, people get too much protein most of the time anyway. The Cheese alternatives have protein in them as well. Can't isn't a factor here, don't want to is haha and thats how I was for a while, I just couldn't possibly do that, but the truth was I could and I did and it was very easy once I did. I still have dairy from time to time I just enjoy it more now.
