appetite and metabolism rate

I have a question for all you gurus (pro or amateur ;-). I just started using a new protein shake/supplement for my breakfast (Vega Complete Whole Food Health Optimizer). I have noticed a direct effect- it makes me ravenously hungry. Usually my metabolism is very slow (due in part to a hormonal condition) and it's rare for me to feel hungry even when I am eating and exercising well. So my question is, can I infer from this that the new supplement is helping increase my metabolism? How closely are appetite and metabolism related? Should I eat when I'm hungry 30 minutes after drinking this stuff? It has a few more calories (maybe 40-50) than the milk + whey protein powder blend I was using before, so that shouldn't explain the difference in hunger.

Maybe you're more hungry because shakes are generally less satiating then whole foods0

I remember when I first started using herbalife, my counselor told me that my metabolism was running at high if I was hungry every 3 hours...but I am pretty sure that's not true. I think they just wanted me to buy more stuff...LOL.0
